The first lorry developed by the Fried. Krupp AG, Essen, Abt. Kraftwagenfabrik was manufactured in 1919. Before the beginning of Worls War II, Krupp manufactured a large pallet of lorries with different framework heights, engines and payload classes. So it’s no wonder that Krupp made chassis for light, medium and heavy omnibuses. Some of the Krupp buses had streamline bodies.
The most important types for the Wehrmacht were the type L 2 H 43/143 (Krupp Protze) and the type L 3 H 63/163. About 7,000 exemplars of the Krupp Protze were manufactured from 1934 to 1942. Of the 3 tons lorry L 3 H 63 & 163, about 2,870 exemplars were manufactured from 1929 to 1938. Besides these, the Wehrmacht took over numerous other Krupp lorries from civilian production. Beginning in the late 1920s, Krupp had a sophisticated typology key.
