During World War I, Belgium covered a large part of its vehicle requirements with the products of Belgian manufacturers. In the 1930s, the number of Belgian vehicle manufacturers decreased. Before and during World War II, the Belgian army used vehicles of the brands Brossel, FN, Miesse and Minerva among others. The Wehrmacht took over a main part of the vehicle stocks of the Belgian army. Formerly civilian vehicles were used, too. Noteworthy are the passenger cars of the brand Imperia. However, the largest part of the vehicles of the Belgian army originated from foreign companies. Above all, French and American motor vehicles were used which were adapted to the requirements of the Belgian army. Several American concerns operated factories in Belgium at that time.
