Ford Motor Company Belgium, Antwerp

The Ford Motor Company Belgium was founded in Antwerp on 30th January 1922 under the patronage of the British Ford Motor Company. Established Ford models were manufactured, partly with minimal modification to the American models. Toward the end of the 1930s, Ford 1 ton lorries were equipped with Marmon-Herrington all-wheel drive and were delivered to the Belgian armed forces. Some of them were equipped with personnel carrier superstructures. One series was made with armoured superstructure as towing vehicles for light anti tank guns. After the occupation of Belgium by the German Wehrmacht, production was continued. In September 1940, production of Ford 3 ton lorries was started. Altogether 527 vehicles were made for the Wehrmacht to the end of the same year. Until the occupation of the Ford work by allied troops on 4th September 1944, more than 11,000 lorries had been made for the Wehrmacht.
