Minerva was founded by Sylvain de Jong in Antwerp in 1897 to produce bicycles. Soon after, motorbikes were made whose production was stopped already in 1910. Automobiles were manufactured beginning in 1902. In 1908, it was decided to produce only automobiles in the luxury class. The first lorry was manufactured in 1913. It had a payload of 2.5 ton. Later, also omnibuses and military vehicles were made. Semi-trailer units after the design of Chenard & Walcker were made beginning in 1925. In 1934, Minerva had to merge with Imperia due to financial difficulties. Minerver automobiles were made until 1938 under the direction of Imperia. Commercial vehicles were offered with diesel engine beginning in 1936.
