Adolphe Willems was an important employee of the commercial vehicle section of Minerva in Antwerp. After Minerva went into financial difficulties in the early 1930s, Willems left Minerva and founded an own workshop. Out of this workshop, the Anciens Etablissements Ad. Willems SA arose in 1935. Omnibuses and lorries with box bodies were made to order which were mainly single-unit productions. Customers had the choice between petrol and diesel engines. Deutz diesel engines were the best-liked. The gearboxes and axles were imported from the USA. Willems delivered 50 to 80 vehicles per year.
