The Neue Automobil GmbH – NAG in short – was founded as daughter company of AEG in 1901. At the beginning, passenger cars and delivery vans were manufactured. Beginning in 1903 also buses and lorries were made. During World War I, exclusively lorries were produced. Due to patriotic reasons the name of NAG was changed to Nationale Automobil AG in 1915. In the year 1919, NAG and several other companies merged to the Gemeinschaft Deutscher Automobilfabriken – GDA in short. A certain coordination of the produced types endured only a few years. The GDA was disbanded in 1929. Despite first financial difficulties, NAG took over Protos and some time later also Presto which had taken over Dux a short time before. These less reasonable takeovers led to the financial ruin of NAG. Due to the contract with the Büssing KG of 11th October 1930, the commercial vehicle section of NAG passed over to the newly founded Büssing-NAG, Vereinigte Nutzkraftwagen AG on 1st January 1931. Passenger cars were made until 1934 when the formerly Presto works were sold to the Auto-Union.
