The Soviet Union is not very well-known for its passenger car production. Nevertheless considerable numbers were manufactured. Until 1943, mainly commercial passenger cars were used by the Red Army, which were partially equipped with all-wheel drive. The passenger cars - like the lorries - came out of licenses of American manufacturers. Later, the USA supplied a considerable number of Willy’s Jeeps to the Soviet Union. The mass of the Soviet lorries consisted of GAZ (Ford license) and ZIS (Autocar license) lorries. The technology of these lorries had become outdated, but under the Russian road conditions they operated very well. After the German attack on the Soviet Union, the USA, Great Britain and Canada supplied large quantities of war goods to the Soviet Union. Among these were hundred thousands of lorries.
