August Horch (1868-1951) founded his first company A. Horch & Cie. in Cologne-Ehrenfeld in 1899. In 1901, the first own developed automobile left the work - a former horse stable. One year later, August Horch shifted his enterprise to Reichenbach; and finally in 1904 to Zwickau. Originally Horch automobiles were characterised by their high quality, luxury and technical progress. August Horch left his company in 1909. The passenger cars of the brand Horch were not very frequent, too. On 1st December 1938, 13,507 Horch passenger cars were registered. The Wehrmacht appreciated them due to their high performance engines. Besides, the vehicles had a high load-carrying capacity which made it possible to use them for other purposes. In the 1930s, Horch made about 4,600 Kübelwagen of different models. In addition, Horch was involved in the production of the m. gl. Einheits-Pkw and s. gl. Einheits-Pkw.
