Opel Blitz 2,5-35 1.5 ton lorry

The Opel Blitz 1.5 ton lorry was manufactured from 1938 to 1942. It was propelled by a 2.5 litres engine with 55 HP which was also used for the Super 6 and the Kapitän.

Altogether 16,410 exemplars were manufactured. Special distinguishing marks to the larger 3 ton Blitz were the front mudguards and the rims.

Opel Blitz 1.5 tons lorries with box body were used by the Luftwaffe as ambulances and equipment vehicles. The ambulance had additional side windows.

This formerly civilian Opel Blitz 1.5 ton lorry with box body was used by a propaganda company as loudspeaker van.

Likewise of formerly civilian origin was this Opel Blitz 1.5 ton lorry with refrigerated van body. The vehicle was used by a unit of the Luftwaffe. The car on the right is a Matford V8-F81A/F82A.

The Opel Blitz 1.5 ton lorry as personnel carrier was quite rare. It is interesting that the Opel, contrary to the competition models of Daimler Benz and Steyr, had the seats parallel facing forward, and therefore the entrance in the rear. It seems that this variant was mainly used by the Kriegsmarine and the Luftwaffe.
