Beginning in 1901, Dodge supplied parts for the still young American automobile industry. From 1914 to 1927, the company carried the name Dodge Brothers Motor Vehicle Company. In 1914, the Dodge brothers started with their own car factory. Beginning in 1917, Dodge built moderately severe lorries for the US Army. After the end of World War I, also for the civilian needs. In 1925, Dodge was bought for 146 million US Dollar by the Dillon and READ Company which again sold it to Chrysler on 31st July 1928. Beside other user countries Dodge lorries were used by the Belgian and French armies. After the west campaign many of these lorries were taken over by the German Wehrmacht. In Norway numbers of lorries worth mentioning seem to have been captured, too. The later Dodge models were captured very rarely by the Wehrmacht in the last years of war.
