Cadillac was founded by Henry Martyn Leland in 1902. It was named after the French founder of Detroit, Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, Sieur de Cadillac. In 1909, Cadillac was integrated into the General Motors concern. From 1927 to 1940, Cadillac offered a range of less expensive passenger cars under the brand name LaSalle. Some of the cars of Cadillac were offered with 16-cylinder engines. In 1942, production was discontinued due to war restrictions.
