John I. Thornycroft & Co. Ltd.

The British engineer John Isaac Thornycroft – known for the construction of torpedo boats – started with the production of commercial vehicles in 1896. At first, vehicles with steam drive were made. Beginning in 1907, the whole range was changed to combusting engines. In the 1920s and 1930s, a large range of buses and lorries was offered. Special military vehicles were delivered to the British army, too.
