NSU

The NSU engine works were founded by Christian Schmidt and Heinrich Stoll in Riedlingen in 1873. In 1880, the enterprise was relocated to Neckarsulm. Beginning in 1886, bicycles were made. The brand name NSU was established in 1892. Beginning in 1901, NSU was substantially involved in the development of the first German motorcycles. Until the 1950s, NSU arose to the World’s leading motorcycle manufacturer. For the main part, motorcycles from 125 ccm to 600 ccm were made. The types 251 OS and 601 OSL were made for the Wehrmacht in larger quantities. Other types of NSU were drawn in formerly civilian motorcycles. During the war, NSU made itself a name by the development and manufacturing of the Kettenkrad.
