The Elite-Motoren OHG arose of the merger of the Elektromobil- und Maschinenfabrik Hentschel & Co. and the Bootsmotorenfabrik Emile Lüders KG in 1913. One year later, the company was reorganised to a corporation. Until 1926 it was traded under the name Elite Motoren Werke AG. From 1916 to 1918 it was named Elite Werke AG. The name Elitewagen AG was used from 1918 to 1927. In 1927 and 1928 it was traded under the name Elite-Diamant-Werke AG. The involvement of Opel in the years 1928 and 1929 failed with great losses which led to the bankrupt of Elite. From 1913 to 1929, Elite manufactured about 3,000 passenger cars and circa 1.000 lorries.
