The Fahrzeugfabrik Eisenach AG was founded by the armaments manufacturer Ehrhardt in 1896. At first, horse drawn military vehicles and bicycles were manufactured. Commencing in 1899, passenger cars were developed and manufactured. In the year 1903, the company left the Erhardt group. One year later, the first Dixi passenger car was offered. In the following years, lorries were offered besides the passenger cars. After World War I, again passenger cars and bicycles were offered. In 1921, the company was taken over by the Gothaer Waggonfabrik. After only a short time, the Gothaer Waggonfabrik including Dixi got under control of the stock exchange speculator Jacob Schapiro, who sold Dixi to BMW to the date 1st October 1928.
