The Artillerie-Zugmaschine Krupp/Daimler KD I - an artillery tractor - was developed by Daimler by order of Krupp. Altogether 1,159 vehicles were manufactured from 1917 to 1918. It had all-wheel drive and a cable winch. This vehicle was the best artillery tractor of the Imperial Army in World War I. A large part of these vehicles were later taken over by the Reichswehr. Further 49 exemplars were manufactured until 1930. Still in the D 600 from 9 November 1935, this vehicle was listed as Zugmaschine Krupp/Daimler Sd. Kfz. 2. According to the H.V.Bl. 1931, No. 27 from 14th September 1931, ser. No. 484, the vehicles should be equipped with Elastik tyres after the older tyres were worn out.
