The first vehicle developed by Borgward was the Blitzkarren, an open tricycle with 2.2 HP engine and a loading capacity of 250 kg. Later, this vehicle became famous under the name Goliath. With the profits made with the Goliath, Carl F. W. Borgward and his partner Wilhelm Tecklenborg could take over the Hansa-Lloyd-Werke in 1929. In 1931, the first passenger car - the Goliath Pionier - went into production. In 1937, Borgward could disburse his partner Wilhelm Tecklenborg and lead the company by himself from this time on. The name of the company was changed to Carl F. W. Borgward Automobil- und Motorenwerke GmbH in 1938. Automobiles were manufactured under the label names Hansa and Borgward. Along with the lorry range the company was one of the most important producers in Germany. Primarily, lorries with a payload of 1 ton to 5 tons were manufactured. Besides the Einheits-Diesel, of which more than 2,400 exemplars were made, approximately 30,000 exemplars of the different 3 tons lorries and half-track vehicles were made during the war.
