3,775 BMW R 51 were manufactured from 1938 to 1940. It was the successor of the BMW R 5 and had only minor differences.
Like in the case of the prdecessor model, the ignition had to be adjusted, manually. It is doubtfull, if such machines survived for a longer time when they were in use by the Wehrmacht.
