In 1911, Gustav Perl founded the Österreichische Berna Motorwagenfabrik Ing. Perl & Co. in Vienna-Liesing for the production of Berna lorries. One year later, production of own developed lorries was started. During World War I, mainly lorries were manufactured. The company was renamed Motorlastwagen- und Motorenfabrik Ing. G. Rud. Perl, Liesing in 1915 because only own developed motor vehicles were made from this time on. After the war, lorries, omnibuses, agricultural tractors and passenger cars were made. In 1923, the company was restructured to the Automobilfabrik Perl AG. Due to financial difficulties, an interest group had to be formed with Gräf & Stift. This led to the complete takeover by Gräf & Stift in the following time.
