Trailers were in use by most motorised units of the Wehrmacht. There were trailers for different purposes. Both, army-own developed trailers were used as well as civilian or captured trailers. Usually, military Sonderanhänger - special trailers - got an Ah. (sometimes also Anh.) or Sd. Ah. number. Besides the Ah. and Sd. Ah. there was a whole range of one-, two- and multi-axle trailers which had no Ah. or Sd. Ah. number. As a general rule, this applied to trailers which originated from the civilian sector which were adapted to the military use. Trailers which were introduced after mid-war often got no Sd. Ah. number anymore. Booty designations could be found only for a number of captured trailer types. Therefore, the designations of other captured trailers were chosen based on the original designations in the style of the German booty designations.
