The origin of the American Bantam Car Company goes back to the 1929 founded American Austin Car Company, which got bankrupt in 1934. In 1935, Roy Evans bought the bankrupt company and called the new company American Bantam Car Company. The formerly produced Austin Seven was reworked. It got a new engine and a new car body and was now offered under the name Bantam. Despite successful trials with the Bantam BRC 40, Bantam manufactured no more passenger cars after 1941. Only the Jeep trailer T 3 was produced.
