About 180 BA-3 heavy armoured cars were manufactured from 1933 to 1935 followed by 386 BA- 6 which were manufactured from 1936 to 1938. A large part of the BA-3 was based on the Ford- Timken chassis, the rest and the BA-6 was made based on the Soviet license model, the GAZ-AAA. The BA-3 and BA-6 were very similar, outwardly. The illustrated vehicle is a BA-3 identifiable by the rear door which was no more present on the BA-6. Both models carried the German designation Panzerspähwagen BA 203 (r).
