The story of Kromhout started with the foundation of a small shipyard in the year 1867. Later the company made steam engines. Around 1900, Kromhout developed and manufactured simple combusting engines. Beginning in 1932, diesel engines for lorries and buses were made which were based on a license of Gardner. In 1935, production of commercial vehicles and buses was started. In 1943, production was stopped due to restrictions of war. About 720 lorries and buses were made from 1935 to 1943.
