A sales office for Ford motor vehicles was opened in Amsterdam already in 1903. An official Ford branch was founded in Utrecht in 1912. In 1924, Ford moved to Rotterdam. Because Ford wanted to create an assembly factory - and Rotterdam was not willing to provide suitable ground - Ford moved to Amsterdam in 1931. By September 1932 production could be started. The used parts originated from Ford USA and Great Britain. After the occupation of the Netherlands by the German Wehrmach in 1940, the Ford works in Amsterdam went under the control of the Ford-Werke AG, Köln-Niehl. From then on, lorries were assembled and serviced for the German Wehrmacht using parts from the Cologne Ford works.
