In total, 248 exemplars of the Maybach W 5 were manufactured from 1926 to 1929. Beginning in 1928, it was offered with fast gear as Maybach W 5 SG. This Maybach W 5 ws converted to a workshop lorry. It was used by the Afrika-Korps.
