mittlerer Kommandopanzerwagen (Sd. Kfz. 251/6)

The mittlerer Kommandopanzerwagen (Sd. Kfz. 251/6) – an armoured commander’s vehicle – was officially introduced with the A.H.M. (general army bulletin) from 16th November 1940. The conspicuous Dachantenne - roof antenna - was typical for this variant. Depending on the radio equipment, an additional radio mast was attached to the rear of the vehicle which is barely visible on this vehicle of an A model.

The m. Kommandopanzerwagen (Sd. Kfz. 251/6) was normally used by a commanding general. These vehicles are identifiable by the adequate pennants.

The conspicuous roof antenna was used in different modifications. The m. Kommandopanzer- wagen (Sd. Kfz. 251/6) was discontinued late in 1943. It was replaced by the m. Funk-Pz. Wg. (Kdo. Wg.) (Sd. Kfz. 251/3 IV). (Photo: German federal archive via Wikimedia Commons; License: Creative Commons BY-SA-3.0-gb)
