The Büssing-NAG type 500 A was manufactured as type 454 beginning in 1939. It was made in small numbers from late 1940 to 1942. Contrary to the Büssing-NAG type 500 S – which had seven louvres – the Büssing-NAG type 500 A had initially four, later five louvres in the side plates of the engine bonnet.

Further distinguishing marks to the Büssing-NAG type 500 S were the engine bonnet, which ascended clearly towards the driver’s cab and the split, narrower side plates of the engine bonnet. The label BÜSSING-NAG ALLRAD ANTRIEB – which means Büssing-NAG all-wheel drive – was coined into the bumper. The illustrated Büssing-NAG type 500 A with Bilstein crane (Kfz. 100) belonged to 15. Panzer Division.
