The roots of the Benz u. Cie - Rheinische Automobil- und Motorenfabrik Mannheim AG goes back to the foundation of a mechanical work in the year 1871. In the night of New Year’s Eve 1879/80, Benz was able to realise the first test run of his new two stroke engine. The first four stroke engine was developed in 1883. Benz developed the first motor vehicle in the year 1885. Beginning in 1895, the first commercial vehicles were made. In 1899, the company was changed to a corporation. In the year 1926, Benz u. Cie. and the Daimler Motorenbau Gesellschaft joined to the Daimler-Benz AG.
