Altogether 3,747 exemplars of teh BMW R 61 were made from 1938 to 1941. The R 61 was propelled by a 600 ccm two-cylinder Boxer engine with a power of 18 HP.
The BMW R 61 had cardan shaft drive and foot control which was unusual at that time. This type was rarely used by the Wehrmacht.
