The BMW R 4 was made from 1932 to 1937. It had a power of 12 to 14 HP at an engine size of 400 ccm. The photo was most probably made during a pre-war military exercise. The headlight was not covered at this time.
This type was procured for the Wehrmacht for the training of drivers. The illustrated machine was photographed during the war. The headlight had received a camouflage cover. An Adler type 3 Gd Kübelwagen is visible behind this BMW R 4.
