The schwere Zugkraftwagen 18t (Sd. Kfz. 9) was used as recovery vehicle for the Panzerkampfwagen III and Panzerkampfwagen IV and their variants. For the recovery of the heavier Panther and Tiger tanks, more than one s. Zgkw. 18t was needed.

The four-axle Sd. Ah. 116 flat bed trailer was used for the recovery of Panzer III and IV tanks. These trains had a considerable length which made manoeuvring in built-up areas difficult.
