Two heavy MG 08 could be transported with the schweren Maschinengewehrwagen (If. 3) up to the area behind a current position. With the carried-along Maschinengewehrhandwagen - machine gun handcart - (If. 1), the MG 08 mit Schlittenlafette 08 - machine gun 08 with sledge mount - and the appropriate accessories and ammunition were transported into the firing-position.

Contrary to the infantry, the cavallry used the Maschinengewehrhandwagen (If. 2). Both wagons were basically identical. Thought the If. 2 was arranged to carry an MG 08 mit Dreifuß 16 - machine gun 08 with tripod 16 - which was exclusively used by the cavalry. While the cart on the upper photos is a Maschinengewehrhandwagen (If. 1), the cart on the lower photo is most probably a Maschinengewehrhandwagen (If. 2). However, the machine gun is a MG 08/15. With the A.H.M. 1936, Blatt 10, from 20th April 1936, No. 257, it was announced that the M.G. Handwagen were passed over from the field equipment to the training and garrison equipment.
