The Caterpillar Tractor Company arose of the merger of the Holt Manufacturing Company and the C. L. Best Tractor Company in 1925. The first crawler tractor propelled by a diesel engine was made in 1931. Caterpillar became famous for its crawler tractors and its construction machines.
