The Societa Anonima Officine Meccaniche was founded in Milano in 1899. This company is the origin of the Officine Meccaniche SpA. (OM). From the beginning, railroad stocks were made. The automotive manufacture of OM started in 1918 with the take-over of the Brixia-Zust automobile company located in Brescia. In the following time, mainly sports-cars were made. After the local competition companies had overgrown, OM ceased production of passenger cars in 1934. Later, only commercial vehicles were made. In 1938, OM was taken over by Fiat SpA. Production was kept up under German direction after the Italian capitulation. Of the only remaining production model – the OM Taurus 3 ton lorry with petrol or diesel engine – 2,305 exemplars were made from January 1944 to January 1945.
