The company Benelli was founded as Garage Benelli by the widow Benelli for her six sons in Pesaro near Rimini in 1911. At the beginning, cycles and motorcycles were repaired. In 1919, the own constructed motorcycle was presented. Two years later, the first motorcycle with own constructed engine entered production. Solo motorcycles and tricycles were made for the Italian army.
