In 1919, the car body company Scammell presented its first articulated towing vehicle. In 1922, the company Scammell Lorries Ltd. in Watford was founded for the manufacturing of lorries. Scammell concentrated on the manufacturing of heavy lorries and tractors. In 1933, a lighter double train for the suburban traffic was introduced, named “Mechanical Horse”. Captured vehicles were mainly used by maintenance and recovery units of the Wehrmacht.
