Norton Motors Ltd.

 

 

 

 

 

James Lansdowne Norton founded the Norton Manufacturing Co. in Wolverhampton in 1898. Later, the company shifted to Birmingham. By 1913, the company was renamed to Norton Motors Ltd. The first motorcycles were made commencing in 1902. Foreign engines bought mainly from France were used. As of 1908, own developed engines entered the serial production. Norton became famous mainly for their many sucesses at international motor sports events. During World War II, almost 100,000 motorcycles were made for the British Army.
