Root of Humber Ltd. was a bicycle factory founded by Thomas Humber in 1868. Beginning in 1898, three wheelers and beginning in 1901, four wheel cars were made. In 1925, Humber bought the commercial vehicle manufacturer Commer. Three years later, Hillman was bought. In 1931, Humber was taken over by the Rootes brothers and was integrated into the Rootes-Group. Besides passenger cars, Humber made armoured cars for the British army.
