The origins of the company Simson goes back to a company founded by the Jewish brothers Löb and Moses Simson in the Thuringian town Suhl in 1856. At first, armaments were made, commencing in 1896 also bicycles. In the year 1907 the development of automobiles was started which were manufactured commencing in 1911. During World War I, armaments and ambulances were made. After the war, production of passenger cars was continued but armaments production had to be stopped. First in 1925 production of rifles, machine guns and small cannons could be continued for the Reichswehr. In addition, the production of luxurious passenger cars was started commencing in 1924. Between 1933 and 1935, the Jewish owners of the company were thrown out of their company by several trials in the course of the Aryanisation of the German economy. Already in 1933, the company was demised to the newly created Berlin-Suhler Waffen- und Fahrzeugwerke GmbH. In 1936, the company assets were shifted to the Wilhelm-Gustloff-Stiftung. In the following time, it was operated under the name Gustloff-Werke - Waffenwerk Suhl. Mainly armaments were made. The production of passenger cars had alread been stopped in 1934.
