The first Hanomag Kübelwagen were made based on the commercial Hanomag 3/16 PS beginning in 1929. They can be differentiated from the successor model Hanomag 4/20 PS by the simple disc rims.
Most of these vehicles were delivered as two-seated Nachrichtenkraftwagen - signals motor vehicle - (Kfz. 2) with large equipment box at the rear.
