Eight exemplars of the Demag D 6 Versuchsserie were manufactured in 1937/38. These vehicles had features of the predecessor models but also some of the successor models. The torsion bar suspension of the front axle, which was used until the model D ll 3, was replaced by a leaf spring suspension in the case of the D 6.
