135 exemplars of the schwere Panzerspähwagen (7,5 cm) (Sd. Kfz. 233) were manufactured from July 1942 to October 1943. Some of the first vehicles were converted Sd. Kfz. 263 of the first series. These vehicles are identifiable by the older vision ports. The Sd. Kfz. 233 was armed with a 7,5 cm K37 and one MG 42. 32 rounds for the main gun were available. It had a crew of three. Observe the very low silhouette of the initial variant.

The largest part of these vehicles was made based on chassis of the fourth and fifth series. Due to reasons of the total weight, the armoured superstructure of the third series had to be used. Only the hinged flaps on the sides for the reflected headlights were dropped.

Due to the weight of the weapon, no additional Zusatzfrontplatte was attached. Beginning in July 1943, the Sd. Kfz. 233 of the fourth and fifth series had a raised armour guard around the open fighting compartment. It provided much better protection to the crew. Until October 1943, 70 vehicles of this late type were made.
