The Wanderer W 51 Spezial was introduced as cabriolet and limousine in 1936. The car body was modelled on American style. It was propelled by a 2.3 litres, six-cylinder engine with a power of 50, later 55 HP. The radiator grille with horizontal ribs was used only for the prototypes. For serial production, a new radiator grille with rectangular grille braces was designed. 485 limousines and 348 cabriolets were made until 1937.

There were no differences to the W 51 Spezial, outwardly. 465 limousines and 834 cabriolets were made until September 1937. In addition, 15 chassis and 80 Kübelwagen (1937-1938) were made.
