In 1862, Charles Terrot and Wilhelm Stückler founded a company for the production of circular knitting machines. A branch factory was founded by Charles Terrot in Dijon in 1887. There, bicycles were made beginning in 1890 and motorcycles beginning in 1902. The Terrot motorcycles gained a good reputation after short time. A whole series of different types was made for the French army. Many of these motorcycles were later used by the Wehrmacht.
