The Renault AFB was made as ambulance for the French army beginning in 1937. Altogether 1,068 exemplars of the model AFB 1 were made until the end of 1939. This model had a normal passenger car radiator grille.
More than 2,000 exemplars of the Renault AFB 2 were made in 1940. It had a changed radiator grille conformed to the military use.
A further Renault AFB 2 ambulance in German service. The vehicle still had no license number. It was labelled with the field post number.
