Sociéte Isobloc

The history of the Isobloc started in the USA in the early 1930s. The American aviation engineer William B. Stout was the father of this construction. The body of this construction was self-supporting without frame to save weight. Better aerodynamics was achieved, too. The renowned French bus car body manufacturer Joseph Besset was so impressed by this construction that he bought the license for France. With the foundation of the French Gar Wood in Annonay on the Ardèche he ascended from a car body manufacturer to an automotive manufacturer. On the fair of Lyon in March 1938, the new bus was presented and became a sensation. It was propelled by a common Ford V8 engine with an engine size of 3.6 litres and a power of 90 HP. Some months later it was named Isobloc. Until 1940, the French army got about 200 exemplars of the Isobloc. Possibly some exemplars were made for the Wehrmacht, later.
