The Spanish-Swiss company Hispano-Suiza was founded in 1904 in Barcelona. Beginning in 1914, aircraft engines were made under license by SPAD in France. Because the production capacity of SPAD was too small, a branch plant of Hispano-Suiza was built up in Bois-Colombes near Paris in 1916. After World War I, production of luxurious Hispano-Suiza passenger cars of the upper class was started up in this work. In 1938, production of passenger cars was stopped in the work in Bois-Colombes. One year later, the French Ballot works were taken over. There, small numbers of passenger cars were made.
