The development of a 8,8 cm Flak based on the chassis of the Pz. Sfl. IVc goes back to a demand of the year 1940. After the campaign in the west, priorities had changed. In June 1942, Krupp suggested the development of a Versuchsflakwagen - trial anti aircraft tank - based on the same chassis. Because of technical difficulties, the production of the first trial vehicle delayed until November 1943. In January 1944 the development was rejected. In the following time, the mounted 8,8 cm Flak 41 was replaced by a 8,8 cm Flak 37 and the vehicle was subordinated under the Heeres-Flak-Artillerie-Abteilung (Sfl.) 304 of the 26. Panzer Division for troop trials. (Photo from Bildermappe SPW)
