First thoughts for the creation of a Neubau-Fahrzeug - new construction vehicle - were made already in 1932. The first two testing vehicles made of carbon steel were made in 1934 and 1935. The first vehicle consisted of a Rheinmetall hull and a Rheinmetall turret while the second vehicle consisted of a Rheinmetall hull and a Krupp turret. In 1936, further three vehicles consisting of a Rheinmetall hull and a Krupp turret were made of armour steel. After the trials, the vehicles were used for training. The vehicles 3 to 5 were sent to Norway in 1940. (Photo: German federal archive via Wikimedia Commons; License: Creative Commons BY-SA-3.0-gb)
