The works for a preliminary draft of the Großtraktor - large tractor - (Gr.Tr.) were started in 1926. The development was started in 1927. Daimler-Benz, Krupp and Rheinmetall were ordered to produce each two trial vehicles. The final assembly of all six vehicles took place under absolute secrecy at the Rheinmetall works in Unterlüß in 1929. The same year, the vehicles were transported to the secret testing site in Kama near Kazan, Russia. In 1933, the vehicles returned to Germany. After further testings, all vehicles were immobilised in the mid 1930’s. The illustrated vehicle is one of the Krupp vehicles.
